Mariko Kawano is a talented artist, with a graphic style rooted in her Japanese heritage. She has a foundation in art theory as well as art history, with an emphasis on the history and evolution of typography, the history of graphic design and the arts and cultures of Asia and Oceania. Mariko has always been fascinated by the minute details in life, especially those found in nature, which is evident in her multidisciplinary work, which spans from Shodo and Tenkoku, the Japanese art forms of calligraphy and seal carving, to designs using oil painting techniques and drawings using graphite and India ink. Mariko’s work has been showcased numerous times at the Shodo Canada Calligraphy Exhibition in Toronto.
